A group of local Elsies River youth took part in an initiative to research and documents the living heritage of some Cape Town communities. The project was collaboration between the Museum and ComArt, a community based organisation in Elsies River. The objective of the project was to take youth on a photographic and oral history exploration of their communities. Their research and the series of workshops they participated in culminated in an exhibition and performance programme at the D6M Homecoming Centre on 10 December, International Human Rights Day.
During the series of workshops, participants learnt about different methods to collect and translate the stories of their ‘living legends’. These included research and interview techniques, writing and photography skills, visual and multimedia skills and activities related to mounting an exhibition.
